About me

Well for those of you reading who do not know me i guess i should give a little bit of info on myself ...

My name is Stacey Grant and I am 23 year old fashion design student from Limerick ,a fourth year student studying in Limerick school of art and design.

I spent last year traveling; during this time I was privileged to work in the fashion industry in India. Living and experiencing life in New Delhi along with working in an Indian fashion company (I was assistant designer at Ashish N Soni), was an enlightening experience I treasure and it greatly informs my work.

I am the fifth generation of garment workers in my family, my father Roy Grant has been well know in Limerick as a tailor, and his family owned the Danus clothing factory in Limerick. My family heritage inspires my work , I enjoy deconstructing the rigidity of the impeccable tailoring I’ve grown up with, while respecting the techniques and skill to create my own vision.

For the Nokia young fashion design awards 2009 I aim to convey my design signature while maintaining relevance to the brief we were given. My design will feature some stunning high specification fabrics which I traveled to London to find, they include metallic fabrics which have been woven with minute metal fibers to maintain a stunning texture, they hold form, As well as permanently pleated organdy and silks. I shall use Swarovski and antique crystals to embellish my garment and I also plan on integrating electronics into the garment, which have been specifically designed for clothing using the most up to date technology.

My work is constantly evolving but is strongly informed by personal stories and reflection on journeys. India, childhood, literature, music, love, family and a sense of place .I love exploring a new concept or idea and taking risks (for example the electronics in this design!) .
